(Ann Arbor) on 09/2008 I bought this bed extender so that I could carry kayaks on the short bed of our Ram 250 truck which we use to haul horse trailers. There are kayak-carrying devices for the roof of a truck but I didn't want the same problem I was having with cars. I was tired of pushing kayaks on top of SUV's, as I am only 5.1 feet tall. You guessed it, ladders and walking on the roof of the car! I was about to buy a small car just to carry kayaks! Then I found this product online. It came out of the box as described. I wrapped the main crossbar in removable bubble wrap and duct tape to prevent bumping the fiberglass boat bottom and sides. With this type of protective wrap, which I can undo in seconsd, I retain the freedom to adjust for the width of 1-3 kayaks. What flexibility. Further, the extender adjusts for lengths of kayaks, for height, it flips to serve other needs. AND it was much cheaper than roof racks offered by mainstream companies. It comes apart quickly so I can store it. I only wish I'd known about it years ago. I couldn't be happier.
